Creating my latest etchings..
One of the sketches I worked from and zinc plate (notice in mirror image) shows working out of timing for aquatint in the acid - the aquatint was the last stage.
These images will show some of the process of etching my latest works of Stonehenge.Inking the etching -
Two different plates showing different stages of the 2 etchings
This is the zinc after first the line was added and then a soft ground which had scrunched up tissue pressed into it before going abk in the acid to bite - after this a sugar lift was added...
Close up showing Sugarlift drying - when dry a layer of stop out varnish is added - when that is dry the plate is dipped in water for the sugar solution to lift off - then its returned to the acid bath to etch..
This shows the sugar lift biting in the acid the golden colour is tape used to stop the acid in that area
The first stopping out for the aquatint..
Etching plate on the press..
first ink is applied to the plate then scrim is used to push the ink into all the intaglio lines
